A no-nonsense approach to teaching guitar, we’ll focus on playing first without overthinking.

My Approach

Joe Sanders takes a straight-ahead approach to teaching guitar. Drawing from decades of live experience, he builds real-world technique, sharpens feel and timing, and pushes students to develop their own sound instead of copying others. His lessons embrace mistakes as part of the process, helping musicians grow faster, play with confidence and carry that ability from practice to the stage.

About Joe

Originally from Washington, D.C., Joe has spent decades building a reputation as a powerful, authentic performer with a style rooted in grit, precision, and pure rock-and-roll instinct. His career has taken him from some of the most legendary stages in the country—including New York City’s iconic CBGB and The Bitter End, both played numerous times—to celebrated Florida venues like Ruth Eckerd Hall, Skipper's Smokehouse, and the historic Tampa Theatre, along with countless clubs and theaters everywhere in between. CBGB itself remains one of the most iconic clubs in American punk and rock history, while The Bitter End is widely known as one of New York’s oldest legendary rock venues.

With over 30 years of experience blistering stages across the country, Joe has played with an impressive lineup of bands including Deva Deep, Freaks Rule, Starbelly, Lexicon Devil, Shadowcraft, The Black Honkeys, Four Star Riot, Death-Love and Addiction, Cult Status, The-Crunge (a Led Zeppelin tribute), Barefoot Bob and the Hope, and Umbra Luna. His versatility and command of the instrument have made him a sought-after “hired gun” for some of the best singers and bands in the Tampa Bay music scene.

In 2006, Joe collaborated with acclaimed producer Sylvia Massy (known for work with Prince, Tool, Johnny Cash, and Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Jim Wood of Dishwalla on Basic Rock Outfit’s national release Thank You for the Pain. He later released two independent solo records, It Is What It Is and Blackbird, further showcasing his range as both a player and songwriter.

Today, Joe continues to focus on what matters most—just the music. Whether on stage delivering blistering guitar work or in the studio crafting songs with purpose and edge, he remains a true player’s player: experienced, unapologetic, and driven by the kind of passion that only comes from a lifetime devoted to the craft.
